When was the last time you logged into your My Business page from Google? Can’t remember when? Well you might want to do it sooner rather then later. Apparently the ever so friendly Google machine is slowly un-verifying inactive My Business pages.
Jade Wang, a Employee of Google, posted this:
In some cases, we may contact Google My Business users via email to confirm that they are still actively managing a business page. If a user is unresponsive to our attempts to contact him or her and has not logged into Google My Business for a significant length of time, then we may unverify pages in the account. We’re doing this in order to continue to provide users with the best experience when they’re looking for local businesses like yours. If you find that a page in your account has been incorrectly unverified, please contact support to get assistance restoring verification. Read it here:
This is slowly happening to accounts that have not logged into their account “in a while”. No news on what time frame on what “in a while” means. If I had to guess, I would say 6 months or more, but that is pure speculation on my part.
To keep your business page active, you need to log into the account that is associated (owner) of the Business page.
You will also want to keep an eye on your email inbox that the account is tied to. Google is sending emails to these accounts asking business owners to confirm that they are still actively managing the business in question.
Helping Denver businesses with their SEO, I’m always logging in and out of Google+ and Google Business Pages, so to me its not a big issue. However, being a small business owner, its just one more thing to remember to do.
Some small business owners, might think having their business listing reverted back to unverified isn’t a big deal, but if your company relies on traffic from Google its huge! After on-page SEO, the best thing a local business can do to help increase their online visibility is to have verified listing on Google and Bing. Not having a verified listing on either site will certainly hurt your local SEO efforts. 28 Circles Denver SEO Experts
